What we are eating is killing us. The rate of obesity, hypertension, and stroke are at such alarming levels, it is time we WAKE UP!
According to the CDC, over 40.5% of Black men and 44% of Black women over 20 have hypertension (high blood pressure).
The leading causes of death in the Black community are heart disease, cancer, and stroke.
Obesity (a body mass index greater than or equal to 30) in the "black" community, for people 20 years and older; 37.5% for men and 56.1% for women whereas in the "white" community men 36.9% and women 38.8%.
How we do one thing is how we do everything! It's not about dividing life into parts because wellness/wholeness cannot be separated and pieced out. In the past, there used to be a quote that talked about fitness being 70% in the kitchen and 30% in the gym...well I've became aware of a new quote/new way of thinking, indicating that fitness happens 100% in the kitchen and 100% in the gym which I fully agree with and believe in. We are the sum total of all the decisions that we have made up to this point. The good news is, we can change our habits/patterns. Learning new skills and shifting our routines is something that we can do with practice. Generating that awareness and then learning how to move forward to a healthier and more fulfilling life is the next step that you will hopefully find within the pages of this website and my blog.
